VISITORS FROM VISA-EXEMPT COUNTRIES

Until now, citizens from visa-exempt countries did not need to fill out any forms in advance or apply for any entry pass to visit Israel. However, a new requirement is being implemented. Now, these visitors, including those from the United States, are required to complete an online application 72 hours before their flight. A 25 NIS ($7) entry fee will also be associated with this process.

Note: Israeli citizens are entirely exempt from this process.

WHEN WILL THIS START?

A pilot version of the ETA-IL program (voluntary and free of charge) will be launched on June 8, 2024, for travelers from the US and Germany.
From July 1, 2024, it will expand to include all visa-exempt countries. The full program, including the fee, will officially launch on August 1, 2024.

WHY IS THIS BEING IMPLEMENTED?

Travelers should not be alarmed by this new Israel entry requirement. The application and fee are similar to those implemented by many other Western countries like the US and Australia. The main purpose of this clearance system is to screen out any potential threats and those likely to violate their visa restrictions. It’s recommended to complete this form 72 hours before traveling, though approval will likely be received within a few hours.

ETA-IL SYSTEM

The Israeli Population and Immigration Administration is launching the ETA-IL system: Visitors from visa-exempt countries can apply for travel authorization. Eligible travelers can stay in Israel for up to 90 days.

Starting from June 1, 2024, the ETA-IL system will open for application submissions as a pilot program only for holders of American and German passports. During the pilot phase, submitting an application will be voluntary and exempt from fees.

The system will open to visitors from all visa-exempt countries on July 1, 2024.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

An ETA-IL authorization will stay valid for up to 2 years, or until your current passport expires – whichever comes first.

If you obtain a new passport or change your name, gender or country of citizenship, you will be required to apply for a new travel authorization.
